Troop Realignment and Elections

Our New Troop Leaders

We fortunate as a troop to have a very large and talented pool of new, young leaders emerging. In addition to the two strong candidates we had for SPL this spring we had a very large group of young men who have been appointed to the senior leadership of the troop. In addition to these fine leader, we now have new Patrol Leaders eager to take command. Also this spring we undertook a slight reorganization of the patrol assignments. The reason? Well, frankly, there was an overdue need to spread experience, leadership, participation, requirements fulfillment and other skills across the several patrols rather than have them concentrated into just a few patrols.

Another Philmont Crew in 2013?

Posted on Feb 22 2012 - 11:29am

Forgot to Register for Philmont 2013?

If you wanted to sign up for Philmont but either forgot or missed the deadline, you may still sign up for the waiting list. Why? Well, it is very likely that we may be able to form a third crew. However, this will require 3 additional adults to sign up as well. Please remember a youth must be 14 years of age OR 13 years of age and completed the 8th grade to qualify for Philmont (no exceptions). So if your Scout will meet these qualifications by August 2013 they can attend. All participants, Scouts and adults, will need to meet the weight requirements (click here for chart) several months in advance of the trek. If you are still interested in going to Philmont in the summer of 2013 please contact Jodie Digan at jdigan@flash.net to register.

Troop 380 Earns Silver

District Recognizes Troop 380

The BSA "Journey to Excellence" (or JTE) program is a nationwide program designed to help Scouting units become more effective. Troop 380 has always been a well-run, highly effective and successful troop and has always considered itself a "top-tier" troop within our District. The JTE has three levels: gold, silver and bronze. Each level has various program-related measurements designed to challenge troops to be better organized and more structured. This year during our recharter we submitted our paperwork for this award. We were delighted to learn that Troop 380 earned the Silver Award, missing the Gold Award by just 25 points. While we don't need an award to tell us we have an outstanding program, it is nice that the District knows what a quality unit we are. Congratulations goes out to our Executive Committee, our Scoutmasters -- especially Mr. Mendelsohn who lead us for so long -- our volunteers, parents and Scouts for a job very well done!!!
