Troop 380's 2005 Eagle Scout Ted Foster Jr. died on August 2, 2009, in Oklahoma City, at age 20, of injuries from an accident. Funeral services at Prestonwood Baptist Church were held August 10th, 2009. Present at the service were many current and past members of Troop 380 and Ted's brother's Troop 1077, and many fellow Eagle Scouts. Eagle Scout Ted Foster, Jr. leaves behind his 2 brothers, Christopher Erler and John Foster and one sister, Callie Foster, as well as his mom and step dad, Sam Foster Erler and Fred Erler, and dad and stepmom, Ted and Laura Foster, and his grandparents, Vera and Talmadge Foster. Talmadge Foster is Honorary Scoutmaster of Troop 380.
Troop 380's past Committee Chair, Bill Wallace, in his January 2007 Eagle Scout Scholarship Recommendation Letter said the following about Ted:
"It is my pleasure and honor to provide this letter of reference for Eagle Scout Scholarship Candidate, Ted Foster, Jr.
Over the past ten years, I have watched Ted grow into a young man governed by the principles of family, faith and scouting. He is deserving of the Eagle Scout Scholarship, having learned during his scouting years to walk and honor the Eagle Trail. Ted has learned and taught many lessons about life to both Scouts and Scout Leaders. He has served in numerous troop leadership positions, working with new and seasoned scouts. Ted is also active in his church and is the recipient of his faith's BSA Religious Award.
During Ted's scouting career, I have served on his Eagle Board of Review, as Troop 380's Committee Chairman, Assistant Scoutmaster, Webelos Den Leader and just as a parent and family friend. It has been my pleasure to work not only with Ted but with his parents as well. The Foster family and their Eagle Scout Scholarship Candidate live their lives based on family and faith. They have been dedicated servants to Troop 380 and the Eagle Trail.
Ted Foster lives the life of an Eagle Scout and is deserving of this scholarship. Please honor him with the Eagle Scout Scholarship as he has honored Scouting, Faith and Family."
"Once an Eagle Scout, Always an Eagle Scout."
Ted lived the Eagle Trail in life as he did in passing by helping others, in his case saving lives via Organ Donations. As a result of Ted's donations, six different people including a four year old child received a new opportunity for life.
In Ted's Honor, Troop 380 hereby establishes the Ted Foster Jr. Scholarship Fund so that current and future scouts will have the opportunity to walk the Eagle Trail.
